Canada Thistle is a declared noxious weed in the state of Kansas and infests nearly 14,000 acres mainly in the western half of the state (2007 Annual Reports). Canada thistle�s invasiveness comes from its ability to reduce crop yields, out-compete native vegetation, and its capacity to reproduce and spread rapidly with rhizomes and windborne seed.

2010 Emerald Ash Borer Workplan
The Emerald Ash Borer (pest of national concern) has been detected in several states in the United States, but is not known to occur in Kansas. Early detection and containment of this pest is of great importance since it can cause the demise of ash trees. The purpose of the survey will be to identify high risk areas, such as forestry debris dump sites, nursery stock, camping sites, military sites and shade tree plantings.

2010 Karnal Bunt Work Plan
The objective of this project is to ensure the ability to export Kansas wheat to foreign customers by collecting Kansas wheat grain samples as part of the National Karnal Bunt Survey (Tilletia indica). This survey will also provide information to the NAPIS data base and provide pest freedom assurance to our customers.
