Arkansas River Compact Administration to meet December 9 in Lamar, Colorado
TOPEKA -- The Arkansas River Compact Administration will have its annual meeting at 8:30 a.m. MST, Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Lamar Community Building, 610 South Sixth Street, in Lamar, Colo.
The meeting agenda will be posted on the Colorado Water Conservation Board's website at http://cwcb.state.co.us on or after Dec. 1.
The Arkansas River Compact Administration administers provisions of the Kansas-Colorado Arkansas River Compact, including how John Martin Reservoir operates. Topics to be covered at the meeting include a review of John Martin Reservoir operations and updates from state and federal agencies.
Three commissioners represent Kansas on the administration: David Barfield, who is chief engineer of the Kansas Department of Agriculture's division of water resources; David Brenn of Garden City; and Randy Hayzlett of Lakin.
The administration's engineering, operations and administrative/legal committees will meet at 1 p.m. MST, Monday, Dec. 8, also at the Lamar Community Building.
Individuals who want to attend this public meeting and who require special accommodations should notify Stephanie Gonzales at (719) 734-5367 at least three days prior to the meeting.
The Kansas-Colorado Arkansas River Compact was negotiated in 1948 between Kansas and Colorado with participation by the federal government. Its stated purposes are to settle existing disputes and remove causes of future controversy between Colorado and Kansas over Arkansas River water and to equitably divide and apportion the water between Colorado and Kansas, including benefits arising from John Martin Reservoir.
