Governor Brownback signs water related bills
On Mar. 5, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed the first two water-related bills of the 2012 session during a ceremony in Garden City and challenged Kansans to embrace the new laws. The signed bills include House Bill 2451, providing incentive to conserve water by eliminating "use it or lose it" in areas closed to new appropriation, and Senate Bill 272, amending multi-year flex accounts to expand irrigators’ capabilities and options so they can manage their crop water without increasing long-term water use. The new laws are designed to conserve the state’s water supply and extend the life of the Ogallala Aquifer. [more]
