Ag department alerts consumers, retailers to White Rabbit Candy recall
TOPEKA -- The Kansas Department of Agriculture is advising consumers who have purchased White Rabbit Candy to be aware that the product has been recalled by its manufacturer, QFCO Inc., because it may be contaminated with melamine.
The agency is also advising retailers who sell the candy to remove it from their shelves.
QFCO Inc. announced the recall last Friday and identified nine states where the product was distributed. Kansas was not among the states listed, but the agency confirmed the product was available for sale in two ethnic markets this week, one in Topeka and one in Kansas City.
According to a QFCO news release issued last week, the company is recalling all varieties of candy, including White Rabbit Creamy Candy, which is sold in 8 oz. and 16 oz packages, and its White Rabbit Candy in Assorted (Chocolate, Coconut and Coffee), Red Bean, Coffee, Corn, Lychee, Mango and Strawberry flavors, which are sold in 7 oz. packages.
All packages have a logo of a white rabbit on the front with the words "White Rabbit."
On Tuesday, QFCO issued a detailed recall announcement to its customers, which is posted on the company's website at www.qfco.com/Recall_Letter.pdf. In it, the company identifies all of its White Rabbit candy by manufacturer export lot number and UPC number.
QFCO advises consumers who have purchased White Rabbit Candy to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or throw it away. Consumers with questions may contact the company at (650) 697-6633.
