Consumer Information

We work to ensure the Kansas consumer has safe food and is protected from economic fraud. Processors and related businesses are licensed and inspected through our work. Samples of products are tested in our laboratory for microbiological, chemical or other types of contamination. Our compliance officers investigate consumer complaints and visit stores looking for mislabeled or out-of-condition products. Contact us if you have a complaint or question about a meat or poultry product.

Every step in the food production and delivery chain is important to food safety for the public. Reducing the risk of microbial contamination as products are produced, transported, processed, distributed and prepared for consumption is a goal of many public and private groups. Information is available from a number of sources, including USDA’s Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555.
