Groundwater
The Middle Arkansas River subbasin primarily overlies the Great Bend Prairie portion of the High Plains aquifer. The Kansas Geological Survey, the Kansas Department of Agriculture and the Big Bend Groundwater Management District No. 5 combine efforts and measure 132 groundwater levels in the subbasin. The Subbasin Water Rresource Management Program collects additional water level measurements tri-annually in the winter, spring and fall. Only winter -- December, January and February -- measurements are used for the monitoring well Water Level Charts.
