Solomon Monitoring Well Network Map

Upper Solomon

The Kansas Geological Survey and the Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources cooperatively measure groundwater levels. All the wells are measured annually in the Upper North and South Forks. There are 110 monitoring wells. The wells monitor two aquifer systems. They are the Ogallala-High Plains and the alluvial aquifers. The hydrologic charts separate the wells by aquifer. The wells are monitored on a tri-annual basis in the winter, spring and fall.  Only the winter measurements are used for the Groundwater Level Charts. These include December, January and February. Groundwater pumping affects these measurements the least.

Lower Solomon

The Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources measures groundwater levels in the Lower North and South Forks. There are 37 monitoring wells. The wells monitor the alluvial aquifer system. The wells are measured on a tri-annual basis in winter, spring and fall.  Only the winter measurements are used for the Groundwater Level Charts. Winter measurements include December, January and February. Groundwater pumping affects these measurements the least.

Mainstem Solomon

The Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources measures groundwater levels in the Mainstem. There are 11 monitoring wells used for these measurements. All are in the alluvial aquifer system. The wells are monitored on a tri-annual basis in winter, spring and fall. Only the winter measurements are used for the Groundwater Level Charts. Winter measurements include December, January and February. Groundwater pumping affects these measurements the least.
