Groundwater
The Big Bend Groundwater Management District No. 5 and Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources staff combine efforts to measure 96 wells in the Pawnee-Buckner subbasin. The Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources collects additional water level measurements tri-annually. Measurements are in the winter, spring and fall. Big Bend Groundwater Management District No. 5 measures five wells on a quarterly basis. They also measure 21 wells in January within their district in Pawnee County. The monitoring well charts use only the winter measurements. They include December, January and February. Winter measurements are considered to be the least influenced by groundwater pumping.
