Groundwater
The Big Bend Groundwater Management District No. 5 and Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources staffs combine efforts to measure 96 wells in the Pawnee-Buckner subbasin. The Kansas Department of Agriculture-Division of Water Resources, Subbasin Water Resource Management Program collects additional water level measurements tri-annually in the winter, spring and fall. Big Bend Groundwater Management District No. 5 measures five wells on a quarterly basis and 21 wells in January within their district in Pawnee County. Only winter -- December, January and February -- measurements were used for the monitoring well Water Level Charts, since those measurements are considered to be the least influenced by groundwater pumping.
